Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/3 cup cornmeal
- 2/3 cup flour
- hot dogs
- corn dog sticks/candy apple sticks/popsicle sticks -- i've used disposable bamboo chopsticks in the past for durability and price.
- extra flour for dusting, about 1/2 cup
Directions:
- Add oil to pan and heat to medium-high, or 375°F.
Batter:
- Combine milk, eggs, oil, sugar, and salt.
- Mix well.
- Sprinkle in baking powder, cornmeal, and flour, and stir well.
Assembly:
- Dry hot dogs and roll in flour.
- Skewer the dogs with sticks.
RAWWWRRRR!
- Set aside your skewered doggos. Awe...
- Pour the batter into a tall glass. Please believe me when I say, the taller the better. You will understand shortly.
- Lower your skewered doggos down into the batter well-of-doom, slowly, upside-down, by the stick handle.
- Now rescue your skewered doggo friend by lifting it out of the well-of-doom, slowly. Allow the excess to drip back down. Make a wish?
- Gently lay the doggos into the hot oil and turn over when bottom gets browned.
- Remove when browned and drain on paper towels.
- Serve with mustard. Duh. Meh, some people like that stuff called ketchup, though.
